Editorial Standards

Editorial Standards & Ethics Policy

At NaijaBreaking, our credibility is our most valuable asset. This page outlines how we source, verify, write, and correct the news we publish.

How We Source Our Stories

NaijaBreaking monitors a curated network of primary Nigerian and international news sources including Punch, Vanguard, Premium Times, Channels TV, BusinessDay, TechCabal, Complete Sports, and official government statements. We supplement this with direct outreach to spokespeople, press releases, and publicly available records.

We do not publish rumour or unverified social media posts as news. Every claim in a NaijaBreaking story must be traceable to at least one credible primary source.

Our Verification Process

Before a story is published, we ask:

  1. Is the source credible? — We prioritise government statements, official filings, named individuals, and established news organisations.
  2. Can it be independently confirmed? — Where possible, we seek a second source before publishing.
  3. Is the context accurate? — We provide the background our readers need to understand why a story matters, not just what happened.

Headlines and Accuracy

Our headlines are written to accurately reflect the content of the article. We do not use misleading, exaggerated, or click-bait headlines. If a headline requires qualification, that context is provided in the opening paragraph.

Corrections Policy

NaijaBreaking takes errors seriously. When a factual mistake is identified — whether reported by a reader or discovered internally — we:

  • Correct the article promptly
  • Add a visible correction notice at the top of the article stating what was changed and when
  • Never silently delete or alter content without acknowledgement

To report an error, email us at [email protected] with the subject line: Correction Request.

Editorial Independence

NaijaBreaking does not accept payment to publish, suppress, or alter news stories. Advertising and sponsored content relationships have no influence on our editorial decisions. Sponsored content, when published, is clearly labelled as such.

AI-Assisted Reporting

NaijaBreaking uses AI writing tools to assist in the research and drafting of articles. All AI-assisted content is reviewed, edited, and verified by our editorial team before publication. We do not publish AI-generated content without human editorial oversight.
